Database 1
Studies examining BrdU-NeuN co-labeling
in the neocortex of adult mammals have produced conflicting
results. We have found BrdU-NeuN positive cells in the adult
neocortex while others have not observed double labeled cells.
One possible reason for these differences is that studies use different
staining procedures to visualize BrdU-NeuN in neocortical
tissue. To test this possibility, we stained rat and monkey
tissue using two common protocols for BrdU-NeuN labeling. The
protocols produced NeuN staining of differing quality – methods
associated with the negative reports yielded reduced NeuN signal to
noise in the neocortex. The protocols and quantitative data on
signal to noise ratio for NeuN arising from this study are posted under
protocols. Database 1 contains
confocal images used in the quantitative analysis of NeuN signal using
the two protocols.
Database 2
This database contains confocal images
of BrdU-NeuN positive cells from the prefrontal cortex of three adult
male macaques. Orthogonal views of these double-labeled cells are
shown.
Database 3
This database contains confocal images of BrdU-NeuN positive cells from the anterior neocortex of two young adult rats.
